Trent en Arne Slot

May 11, 2025

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his disappointment following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s announcement that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The right-back made the emotional revelation earlier this week, sending shockwaves through the fanbase. Slot, however, says he understands the player’s decision.

“Like everyone who loves this club, I think we’re all a bit disappointed,” Slot admitted during his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on Sunday (May 11, 5:30 p.m.).

Slot compared the situation to his previous experiences managing Dutch clubs like AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

“I’ve worked at clubs where top players left before. I’m used to it. One thing I’ve learned is that when a great player moves on, another great one will step up. That’s part of football — and it’ll happen here too.

Social Media Criticism Hits Hard

Following his announcement, Alexander-Arnold faced a wave of criticism online — something Slot acknowledged.

“People always have opinions. This may be a little more negative than what Trent is used to. But I’m not the one to tell our fans how to react.

Slot Reached Out Privately

Slot revealed that he had spoken to Alexander-Arnold via WhatsApp after the announcement.

“He told me the team and the club shouldn’t be distracted by his decision. The boys had a few days off, so we’ll see how he’s feeling when he returns.

Where Is He Going? Slot Drops a Hint

Asked if he knows where the Liverpool vice-captain is headed, Slot kept things vague — but not without a smile.

“He hasn’t said where. Just that he’s leaving. So no, I can’t confirm if he’ll play in the Club World Cup with Real Madrid,” Slot said with a grin.
“But judging by my smile… I think we both kind of know.
